Rimrock Trails Adolescent Treatment Services

For over 20 years, Rimrock Trails has helped create lasting change in the lives of teens struggling with addiction. While in treatment youth begin to believe in themselves, develop a clear vision for their future and become empowered to face life’s challenges without the use of substances. Our professional staff are devoted to guiding youth through the process of change by helping them acquire essential skills, personal accountability and rediscover values necessary for leading a more productive life. Rimrock has one of only five adolescent residential substance abuse treatment programs in the state and has been recognized and regarded as the program of choice for teens struggling with addiction.

Rimrock Trails is a nonprofit organization licensed by the state of Oregon to provide co-occurring mental health and addiction treatment for teens ages 12-17 with a primary dependence on alcohol and/or other drugs. Rimrock Trails opened it's doors in September of 1990 in a small wing of the Prineville Memorial Hospital. More than two decades later, Rimrock proudly boasts it's beautiful residential campus in Prineville serving youth statewide and three outpatient offices throughout Central Oregon.

Rimrock Trails has partnered with Healing Reins to provide Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) for youth in our residential program. EFL is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions between youth and horses.
The goal of equine therapy is to help the youth develop needed skills and attributes, such as accountability, responsibility, self-confidence, problem-solving skills, and self-control.

What are the Benefits of Equine Therapy?
Equine therapy has been successful in helping patients show marked improvements in the following areas:

Many of the benefits of EFL are due to the nature of the animals with which the youth are interacting. Horses are typically non-judgmental, have no preconceived expectations or motives, and are highly effective at mirroring attitudes and behaviors of the humans with whom they are working.

Residential Treatment

Rimrock Trails offers 60-90 day residential treatment. In residential treatment adolescents have an opportunity to distance themselves from negative influences, establish sobriety, recover school credits in our onsite classrooms and participate in team building activities with the guidance of trained staff. All youth learn relapse prevention, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal skills necessary to lead a more productive life.

Youth reside in a safe and comfortable therapeutic learning environment that is welcoming and conducive to change.

The length of time required to complete treatment varies according to each youth's individual needs and rate of progress.

Outpatient Treatment

Rimrock Trails offers a wide range of outpatient services in Bend, Redmond, and Prineville Oregon.

Most youth require approximately 12 weeks to complete outpatient treatment but can vary according to the youth’s individual needs and rate of progress.

Our outpatient programs follow a specific approach known as The Matrix Model for Teens and Young Adults; an evidenced based therapy program. The Matrix Model for Teens and Young Adults, like the matrix model for adults, is a comprehensive, organized set of evidence-based therapeutic interventions. The Matrix Model for Teens and Young Adults consists of research-based techniques integrated into an approach that includes individual , family and group therapy sessions, SMART Recovery and Twelve Step programs.

The complex social environment of the adolescent- including family, school, community, peers, and juvenile justice involvement - is an important consideration in developing appropriate treatment, as is the developmental stage of the adolescent. We recognize that many patients entering treatment during their teen years need programming that falls toward the middle of the prevention-treatment continuum. The material in this program was selected, organized, and designed to be delivered while taking all of these issues into account.

How will The Matrix Model for Teens and Young Adults help your child?

Insurance Verification and Helpful Tips:

Some insurance plans cover treatment at Rimrock Trails ATS; others do not. We work with all insurance companies to facilitate reimbursement to you according to your benefit plan. Our state licensure and preferred provider status allow many families to receive health insurance reimbursement for their child's treatment in our outpatient and/or residential programs.

If you have medical insurance, there may be some reimbursement available under your substance abuse/mental health benefits however; most plans do not cover the full cost of treatment. It is worth checking to see if your insurance company will cover the cost of treatment.

Here are some helpful tips when dealing with insurance companies:

1. Most insurance companies require pre-authorization for residential care stays; because of this, you should make admission arrangements with your insurance company before your child begins one of our programs.
2. Clients are responsible for payment of deductibles and co-insurance directly to Rimrock Trails ATS at the time of admission.
3. Benefit plans do not guarantee payment by your insurance company. If plan benefit payments are denied, the client is responsible for payment.
4. Insurance companies generally respond best to their customers, so we ask that you contact your company first to check benefits, eligibility, and to arrange for coverage.
5. Be sure to read your insurance coverage policy before talking with your insurance company so you are well informed.
6. Be prepared. You will usually be asked to describe your child's problem and our program.
7. Be sure to ask for a list of the benefits available to you, the maximum available, and any deductions for co-payment or deductible.
8. If the first representative you speak with denies you coverage, do not give up. If you have tried discussing your request with your health plan's customer service representative, but are not satisfied with how your insurance matter was handled, ask to speak to: a Supervisor in the Customer Service Department or the Manager or Director of Customer Service or Member Services.
9. Keep track of all communications with your insurance company. Be sure to keep detailed, written records of each conversation you have with your insurance company representatives. Record the date the conversation took place, the first and last names of the representative with whom you spoke and make notes regarding any information that was provided to you. Also, remember to keep copies of all written correspondence that has taken place between you and your insurer.
10. After you have talked with your insurance company, they may want to discuss your child's symptoms and diagnosis with us to make a final determination of medical necessity. We will provide them with this information after consulting with you and any other sources needed.
11. If you have problems in working with your insurance company or need consultation on particular talking points, please feel free to call us for suggestions at (888)-532-6247.
